Professional soccer’s K League 1 Suwon Samsung has completed the turnaround.
Suwon defeated Jeju United 1-0 at home in the 27th round of the Hana OneQ K League 2023 at Suwon World Cup Stadium on Oct. 18 to move into 11th place with 22 points, knocking Gangwon FC (20 points) to the bottom of the table.
Suwon scored the winning goal in the 40th minute on a header by Boultuis following a corner kick by Lee Ki-je.
Jeju, with 34 points, remained in eighth place.
Gwangju FC extended its unbeaten streak to seven matches with a dramatic draw against Incheon United to move up to fourth place.
Gwangju drew 2-2 with Incheon in a Round 27 away match at the Incheon Football Stadium.
With two wins and five draws in its last seven league games, Gwangju has accumulated 39 points to leapfrog FC Seoul (38 points), which has played one game less, into fourth place.
Incheon, with 37 points, moved up one spot to sixth.
Gwangju dominated the game in the first half after key center back Timo, who was initially named in the starting lineup, was forced to withdraw with a leg injury after warming up ahead of the game and was replaced by Ahn Young-gyu.
Gwangju’s best chance of the first half came in the 25th minute when Um Ji-sung’s cross from the left flank was met with a pinpoint header, but the ball was denied by a super save from Incheon goalkeeper Lee Tae-hee in the corner of the net.
Incheon, with Mugosa and Gerso spearheading the attack, managed just one shot on goal while Gwangju recorded four shots, including three on target in the first half.
In the 42nd minute, a long ball from near the halfway line found Mugosa on the right side of the penalty area, where he struck it with his right foot after chest trapping, into the arms of Gwangju goalkeeper Kim Kyung-min.
Gwangju, which was forced to switch to non-specialist center back Lee Soon-min at the start of the second half after another foreign center back, Aaron, complained of left thigh pain during the first half, conceded the lead four minutes into the second half.
A long ball from Lee Tae-hee found its way to Jerso, who controlled the ball with his chest as he broke through on the left side of the penalty area and slotted a left-footed shot past three opponents.
Jerso struck again in the 14th minute of the second half.
After a pass from Mugosa, Jerso started sprinting, overcame a challenge from Ahn Young-gyu, beat the goalkeeper, went to the goal line, and found the back of the net with his left heel.
It was his second consecutive game with multiple offensive points, following a goal and an assist in Round 26 against Daegu FC.
However, Gwangju kept the chase alive in the second half when substitute Asani scored the ‘wonder goal’ with an exquisite left-wing curling free kick from behind the penalty arc in the 33rd minute.
In the 41st minute of stoppage time, Uhm Ji Sung tried to find the back of the net with a header and a right-footed shot, but couldn’t get past Lee Tae-hee.
Gwangju continued to push forward in the extra time and managed to score one more goal to take a valuable point. 안전놀이터
With just over two minutes left in the second half, Lee Soon-min’s cross from the left flank was headed in by Lee Tae-hee for the game-winning goal. This time, Lee got a hand on it, but it went into the back of the net.
