Ko Young-pyo ‘QS+ for 5 consecutive games’→Double-digit wins for the third straight year…KT, Doosan sweep to win series

‘High-quality’ Ko Young-pyo (KT Wiz) continues to pitch well. KT swept the Doosan Bears and recorded a winning series.

KT won 3-1 against Doosan in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League on Saturday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul.

Doosan’s lineup was Jung Soo-bin (center field), Kim Jae-ho (shortstop), Jose Rojas (right field), Kim Jae-hwan (left field), Kim In-tae (designated hitter), Yang Seok-hwan (first base), Kang Seung-ho (second base), Jang Seung-hyun (catcher), and Heo Kyung-min (third base). The starting pitcher was Kwak Bin.

KT’s lineup, which was started by Ko Young-pyo, consisted of Kim Min-hyuk (right fielder), Lee Ho-yeon (second baseman), Hwang Jae-gyun (third baseman), Park Byung-ho (designated hitter), Anthony Alford (left fielder), Kim Sang-soo (shortstop), Kim Jun-tae (catcher), Oh Yun-seok (first baseman), and Bae Jeong-dae (center fielder).

In the top of the first inning, KT struck first with a leadoff walk to Kim Min-hyuk and a single to Lee Ho-yeon to put runners on first and second. Hwang Jae-gyun followed with an RBI single. Park Byung-ho flied out to right field, but pinch runner Lee Ho-yeon tagged up and took third base. Alford followed with a grounder to the pitcher.

After getting through the second through fourth innings without any major trouble, Kwak-Bin faced his second crisis in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, he gave up back-to-back singles to Oh Yoon-seok and Choi Jae-dae. He then induced a grounder to Kim Min-hyuk in front of the first baseman, but had to settle for getting only Choi. Lee Ho-yeon then drew a walk to load the bases. Hwang Jae-gyun came to the plate. Kwak Bin battled Hwang Jae-gyun to a full count and got out of the jam by striking out looking. Hwang Jae-gyun expressed his disappointment after failing to capitalize on the opportunity.

Kim Jun-tae and Ko Young-pyo, who shared the starting battery for the first time in 346 days, pitched well. He gave up a double to Yang Seok-hwan with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, but struck out Kang Seung-ho and Jang Seung-hyun.

Ko put runners in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the third. Jung Soo-bin hit an infield single and then stole second. However, Kim Jae-ho and Rojas were both hit by pitches. In the bottom of the fifth, Kang Seung-ho, the leadoff hitter, was hit by a pitch and allowed a stolen base, putting runners on second and third, but he struck out pinch-hitter Cho Soo-hyung and then got Heo Kyung-min and Jeong Soo-bin to fly out to first and second, respectively, to end the threat.

Doosan rallied in the bottom of the sixth. After Kim Jae-ho grounded out to the second baseman, Rojas singled to center. Kim Jae-ho walked to load the bases. Kim In-tae was then hit by a pitch to bring Rojas home.

However, KT came right back. In the top of the seventh inning, with the bases loaded, Choi Jae-dae hit a double. Kwak Bin walked to load the bases. Kim Min-hyuk followed with a sacrifice fly. KT increased its lead to 3-1.

Ko Young-pyo faced the final threat in the seventh inning. He gave up a walk to Kang Seung-ho and a single to Heo Kyung-min to put runners on second and third. However, he struck out Jung Soo-bin on a fly ball to left field and came off the mound. 먹튀검증
